Huntable Game Species on Ombirisu

Oryx

Activity: Early morning, late afternoon and night-time

Distribution: Gemsbok are widespread on Ombirisu.

Hunting: Stalking in the early morning or late afternoon, or sitting at the waterhole will be successful.

Activity: Early morning, late afternoon and daytime.

Distribution: Haartebeest form the largest population on Ombirisu

Hunting: Stalking in the early morning or late afternoon is promising. Alternatively, hunting from a hide at the waterhole.

Greater Kudu

Activity: Early morning, late afternoon and night-time

Distribution: Kudus are found sporadically on Ombirisu.

Hunting: Hunting a large, old kudu bull requires a lot of luck. The best time to hunt kudu bulls on Ombirisu is during the rutting season in May and June.

Activity: Early morning, late afternoon and daytime.

Distribution: Haartebeest form the largest population on Ombirisu

Hunting: Stalking in the early morning or late afternoon is promising. Alternatively, hunting from a hide at the waterhole.

Activity: Early morning, late afternoon and night-time

Distribution: Steenbok are widespread on Ombirisu and very territorial.

Hunting: Stalking in open areas or clearings, or sitting at a waterhole, can be successful.

Activity: Baboons can always be seen and are active all day.

Distribution: Baboons appear on Ombirisu in groups or occasionally as solitary individuals.

Hunting: The hunter must be able to shoot quickly and accurately, as baboons are very alert and can flee quickly.

Activity: Early morning, late afternoon and night-time

Distribution: Steenbok are widespread on Ombirisu and very territorial.

Hunting: Stalking in open areas or clearings, or sitting at a waterhole, can be successful.

Black-backed jackal

Activity: Early morning, throughout the day, late afternoon and nighttime.

Distribution: Jackals are widespread on Ombirisu.

Hunting: With a bit of luck, the hunter might see a jackal while stalking. Alternatively, sitting at the waterhole or at a bate can be successful.

Weapons Import & Caliber

Prescribed caliber selection:

Small game, e.g., ibex - 1350J projectile energy (.243 or similar in mm)
Medium-sized game, e.g., Oryx - 2700J projectile energy (.30-06 or similar in mm)
Large game, e.g., buffalo - 5400J projectile energy (.375 or similar in mm)

Arms import:

Importing weapons into Namibia is possible and costs approximately € 500.
You will need a firearms ownership card, an European/international firearms pass, a hunting invitation from the farm owner, and you must fill out an entry form.
Ammunition in a lockable box which must be transported separately from the weapon (max. 60 rounds per caliber)
Transport your hunting weapon in a lockable and sturdy gun case.
Label all pieces of luggage

Arrival and Entry

Direct Flights:

Lufthansa Discovery flies daily from Munic or Frankfurt, Germany

Connecting Flights:

Ethopian Airlines via Addis Abeba or connecting flights via South Africa

Visa:

A tourist visa costs around € 85 for German citizens and is valid for 90 calendar days within the specific calendar year

Passport:

Your passport must have min. 2 free pages and must be valid for at least 6 months prior your entry

Insurance:

Personal liability- and travel insurance

Airport Transfer:

We will pick you up at the airport, alternatively a shuttle service can be organized
